Overview
A portable oxygen concentrator is a precision medical device that will reliably produce oxygen for many years — provided it is maintained correctly. The SG is designed for low maintenance: most of the routine care can be done by the patient in minutes. This guide covers the cleaning schedule, part replacement timelines, and signs that professional service is needed.
Why Maintenance Matters
The device draws in room air, which contains dust, microscopic particles, and bacteria. Filters protect the internal sieve beds from contamination, and cannulas can harbor bacteria over time. Without regular cleaning, the unit's oxygen output efficiency drops, the patient may inhale contaminated air, and the lifespan of internal components shortens significantly.
Daily Care
- Wipe the device exterior with a soft dry cloth to remove dust.
- Inspect the cannula for cracks, discoloration, or odor before attaching it.
- Check the battery charge level and plug in the charger overnight if the battery is below 50%.
- Make sure the air intake vents are not blocked by clothing, blankets, or curtains during use.
Weekly Cleaning
Once a week, perform a more thorough cleaning:
- Unplug the device and power it off completely.
- Remove the external air filter from the back of the unit.
- Wash the filter with lukewarm water and a small amount of mild dish soap. Rinse thoroughly to remove all soap residue.
- Dry the filter completely by air-drying for at least 24 hours, or until no moisture remains. Do not use heat.
- Wipe the device body with a damp (not wet) cloth. Use only water; never alcohol, bleach, or harsh chemicals.
- Reinstall the dry filter and resume use.
Monthly Checks
- Check battery runtime. Run the device on battery at the prescribed setting and time how long it lasts. If runtime drops below 60% of the original capacity, the battery is aging and may need replacement.
- Verify oxygen flow. Listen for the pulse-dose click at each inhalation. If the click is weak, intermittent, or absent, contact SG Kuwait for service.
- Inspect the tubing for kinks, cracks, or stiffness. Replace any damaged tubing.
- Check the cannula prongs for hardening or discoloration even within the 2-week replacement window.
Battery Care
The 6800 mAh lithium battery in the SG should last 1.5–2 years of regular use before noticeable capacity loss. To extend its lifespan:
- Charge the battery to full after each use.
- Avoid leaving the battery fully depleted for extended periods.
- Do not expose the device to high heat (over 40 °C). Never leave it in a car in direct sun.
- For long-term storage (more than 2 weeks), leave the battery at approximately 50% charge.
- Use only the original AC adapter or car charger. Third-party chargers may damage the battery or void the warranty.
Replacement Schedule
| Component | Replacement Interval |
|---|---|
| Nasal cannula | Every 2 weeks |
| External air filter | Every 6 months (every 3 months in Kuwait's dusty climate) |
| Battery | Every 1.5–2 years or when runtime drops below 50% |
| Internal molecular sieve | Device lifetime — service only if oxygen purity drops |
Replacement cannulas and filters can be ordered via WhatsApp. We deliver across Kuwait the same day for orders confirmed before 2 PM.
Professional Service
Contact SG Kuwait for professional service if you notice any of: persistent alarm tones that do not clear, oxygen output that feels weak even at the highest setting, the unit shutting off unexpectedly, unusual noises (grinding, knocking), or any error codes shown on the LCD display. The 2-year SG Kuwait warranty covers parts and labor for these issues.
For routine questions, our WhatsApp support is available 24/7 throughout the warranty period and beyond.
